Day 38

“I miss you when you’re gone!”

That’s what Makayla says all the time. I have no idea when or where she picked that up… but I think it kinda fits today….

I’m really bummed. Why? Well… because I’ve been spoiled these last few months that Chris has been working at this new job.

He’s always (as long as I’ve known him which is around 10 years now) had a job where he traveled. -Often and for long lengths at a time.- And since he’s been working at his newest job, he’s not really had to travel very much at all. And I LOVE it! And the girls LOVE it too! We’ve all been quite spoiled by his lack of travel, honestly.

But today he had to fly out to California. It’s totally bummin’ my flow today.

I’m tired, depressed and feeling genuinely uncreative and unmotivated today. Hope tomorrow is better.

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/30 second, f/4.5, 50mm, ISO=630 – hand held, nifty 50 (f/1.8) lens.

Flash: SB800 at 1/16 power @70mm about 5 feet high – on manfroto nano stand – with my diy snoot straw grid – pointed down to subject from camera front/left. Triggered with PWplusII.

Day 39

bench monday

We don’t have a bench in the house… and since Chris is still traveling, I decided to improvise with stuff here in the house. But we do have a table. So I grabbed the pledge and dusted it off… effectively making it VERY slippery in the process. So I grabbed our ladder and used that to climb up on the table – as many of you know I’m not a very coordinated person, and I was trying to not injure myself today. lol.

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/60 second, f/2.5, 50mm, ISO=250 – on tripod, shutter triggered remotely, nifty 50mm (f/1.8) lens.

Flash: SB800 at 1/128 power @24mm about 2.5 feet high and 2-3 feet away from subject – on manfroto nano stand – with my diy snoot straw grid – pointed slightly up to – though nearly even with subject from camera front/left. Triggered with PWplusII.

A little…. hmmm?

Day 22

Today I was feeling a little crazy. I don’t know why. And I was packing up some more stuff and ran across my face paint and thought… what the heck! So I threw some on [with little care for what it really looked like] and played with the camera.

I tried when I was done to remove the makeup (it’s some oil based halloween makeup we had laying around) – and though I got most of it off, I’m pretty sure there’s a fair amount in my eyes. They’re watering like crazy and overall feeling irritated now. I guess I need to go digging through my (already packed) makeup kit to find my remover.

sigh.

Camera Info: 1/200 second, f/10, roughly 35mm, ISO=200 – on tripod but I pressed the shutter manually.

Flash: SB800 at 1/4 power @17mm about 4 1/2 feet high, shot through umbrella. Triggered with PWplusII.

I ended up with a few images that I liked so I thought I would share them here:

And for those of you wanting to know more about the setup for these (other than the text I have above):

Day 11 & 12.365

I slacked off yesterday from the photo project… but I made up for it today. =)

…shake it! shake it! shake it baby, now!!!

Day 11

It’s finally warming up a bit! Awesome!!!

Since it’s only mildly cool outside, I thought I would go out in the front yard and do my make up shot for yesterday. Chris went after work to look at two more houses – which now we are going to try for! yay! We had all but given up on finding a suitable house in Lakeland to RENT, so we had resigned to moving into an apartment again. SIGH!

But thankfully, Chris found two more houses to look at and they were both nice… so we’re going with the cheaper one in an effort to save a little in the next year and actually buy a house in Lakeland. Also, we want to get the girls into some type of day care or preschool and I want to get a studio space after we do that… so the drop in rent will help with that immensely! =) Yay!

So with all that, I thought I would go shake around outside to celebrate. All the neighbor kids were out playing and looking at me funny in the drive way with my camera on a tripod and me jumping around all crazy. LOL.

Kids! they’re so serious! =) HA!

Day 12

Two photos today!

Not only am I in an infinitely better mood… but it’s WARM outside!

Well… it’s warmER outside!

Yesterday I was tired from starting to get things packed for our move…. and also getting stuff set aside for our garage sale this weekend too…. so I was lazy and didn’t do my 365 photo.

I mentioned that I’m happier…. why?

Well…. it looks like we DON’T have to move into an apartment after all! WOOt!

It was going to be a second story apartment too…. which we’ve done before. BUT, living above anyone with two kids just didn’t seem like a good thing to me. Plus, Chris tends to walk pretty heavy-footed too… so I just know we’d drive the people below us crazy! (Just ask our old neighbors, they’ll tell you! – Right James and Yani?!) LOL.

Of course that’s not the worst part of the apartment idea though. The loss in square footage was gonna be huge! We’re in a 2,800 sq.ft. home right now…. and this was going to be a 1,200 sq.ft. apartment. I have no idea what we were going to do with all our stuff!!! Get a garage and use it as storage, I guess…..

But NOW!!!! We don’t have to do that! I’m just so happy about that! We’ll be like 10 minutes from Downtown Lakeland too! Which is really great for Chris! Poor guy’s been commuting nearly 2 hours to and from work (4 hours total) each day for months now. It’s gonna be so great for him to not have to drive like that anymore! And that means lower gas bills too!!! Which are pretty heafty on an F-150!

YAY!!!

Camera info: 1/250 second, f/13, 52mm, ISO 100 – on tripod and shutter triggered with remote.

Strobist info: SB800 flash @24mm & 1/8 power – on manfroto nano stand about 5&1/2 feet high on camera left with a 3/4 CTO gel pointed down at me. (I’m still on our driveway here which is elevated – so I’m lower on the driveway). Flash is set up about 2 feet away from the camera to the left and about 4 feet or so away from me. Triggered with Pocket Wizard II’s.

ENJOY!

Day 10.365 – FROST

Day 10

I can’t seem to get warm!!! I know I’ve been saying this for a while now…. but it’s COLD. I was out walking the dog this morning and noticed a rather large patch of our grass was covered in frost. At the time… I didn’t really think much of it… but as the day went on, the frost was still there.

So after walking the dog at 1pm, I decided I would make this my 365 today. And it would save me from having to go out tonight when it’s going to be even colder. The only problem is that the frost was in the area of our backyard where the dog usually likes to do his business. So I grabbed some cardboard to set up my little makeshift tripod on and took a few shots.

A little info extra info that I forgot to mention in my strobist info video – I used a 3/4 cto gel on the flash. I used the flash in the first place was because I was shooting the frost that was in the shade…. so I needed a little light assistance there.

Camera info: 1/200 second, f/7.1, @70mm, iso 100.

HOWEVER!!!

you’ll note in the video that I mentioned different settings. Well, that’s because I’m a dork. I was reading off the settings on the camera for a different shot. One that I took while hand holding the camera and shooting down at the frozen patch of grass next to my foot. I decided not to use that shot and went with this one instead. Sorry. lol.

But the flash stuff is accurate for this shot. And that’s the important part, right? lol.

Here’s the “strobist info” video…. enjoy!

Baby, it’s COLD outside!!!

Squeek Photography – Orlando Photography

BLOG

Day 5.365

Tonight I had to run our final rent check out to the other side of town, so I decided that I would do my 365 in downtown Orlando since I would be driving right by there on my way home. I parked under the I-4 overpass and walked a few blocks to the intersection of Church and Orange and started to set up my gear. I moved quickly as the temperature dropped and the wind blew some crazy cold weather down the streets of downtown.

Brrrrrr!

I know that there are plenty of you out there enjoying the *much* colder weather…. but us Florida people are pretty well known for being cold weather wimps. It’s kinda funny though. We spend all year in the heat and humidity – wishing aloud for colder weather… and when it finally comes, we all groan that it’s too cold outside. I guess we can’t make up our minds.

I do enjoy the colder weather for the most part… it’s just the bite the wind has really is not my favorite.

Anywho… I spent maybe a half hour playing around with my gear and then I’d had enough, packed up and headed home.

Strobist info (no photo today – I know… I just forgot): Flash at camera right on manfroto nano stand about 3 feet high with shoot through umbrella (which was like a kite!). SB800 Flash had a 1/4 CTO gel (I lost my 1/2 the other day – and haven’t replaced it yet), and was shot at 24mm / 1/128 power and triggered with pocket wizards. I had to weigh down the stand with my gear bag due to the wind.

Camera Info: 50mm f/1.8, ISO= 500, shutter= 1/50 second On tripod and triggered with the remote you see in my hand.

And here’s an outtake – I was soooooo cold! My cheeks and nose were frozen! so I tried to warm them up a bit and accidently hit the button on the remote I had in my hand. =)

Same strobist info as the one above. No post on this except the crop/watermark/text and resize for the web. =)

Day 4.365 – Alien abduction?!

…Or am I just a crazy person? …I don’t know…. =) lol

Day 4

Chris got home from work tonight and I headed right out to do my 365. I had been thinking about it all day but had yet to come up with any real ideas for the shot. So I aimlessly drove around our side of town until I decided to go see what was behind the old Wal-Mart in front of the neighborhood where I grew up.

It’s a bowling alley now. It seems to be doing pretty well too. I managed to find something that was remotely interesting – some stairs that used to lead to one of the loading dock doors that had been walled up. I spent some time there playing around but not really getting anything that looked interesting. So I turned the camera around and set up my flash up on the hood of my truck (to get some added height) and played around with the sky as the background.

Strobist info on this one (no photo today, sorry): Flash 3ft to right of camera on the manfroto nano stand – which was 4ft high and on top of the hood of my truck. Total height was around 7-8ft. Settings 24mm @1/128 power – shot through umbrella pointed down at me. Triggered with Pocket wizard (held one in my hand to keep popping the flash while the shutter was open).

Camera Info: Shutter: 10 sec. Aperture: 4.5 ISO: 200 Focal length: 27mm On tripod (lens: 18-70mm 3.5 kit lens)

Here’s an outtake on the stairs I mentioned…. I played with the image but I’m more pleased with the image I settled on making my day 4.365. And yes… that’s my wand. I’m a dork. I love all the Harry Potter books and movies. =)

Strobisst info on this: Flash at camera left with my diy straw-grid-snoot (made out of a lays plastic can), at 1/32 power, 24mm, on manfroto nano stand extended to full 6+ft. Flash triggered with Pocket Wizard.

Camera Info:   Shutter= 1second  Aperture= 4.5   Focal length= 55mm ISO= 500   *Shot on tripod with remote shutter release.

**some post on this one – used TRA actions and added in the wand light [lumos].

Well…. that’s it for now… Thanks for stopping by! I’d love to hear your thoughts on these two images, so please leave a comment to let me know what you think. =)
