days 38/39

Day 38

“I miss you when you’re gone!”

That’s what Makayla says all the time. I have no idea when or where she picked that up… but I think it kinda fits today….

I’m really bummed. Why? Well… because I’ve been spoiled these last few months that Chris has been working at this new job.

He’s always (as long as I’ve known him which is around 10 years now) had a job where he traveled. -Often and for long lengths at a time.- And since he’s been working at his newest job, he’s not really had to travel very much at all. And I LOVE it! And the girls LOVE it too! We’ve all been quite spoiled by his lack of travel, honestly.

But today he had to fly out to California. It’s totally bummin’ my flow today.

I’m tired, depressed and feeling genuinely uncreative and unmotivated today. Hope tomorrow is better.

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/30 second, f/4.5, 50mm, ISO=630 – hand held, nifty 50 (f/1.8) lens.

Flash: SB800 at 1/16 power @70mm about 5 feet high – on manfroto nano stand – with my diy snoot straw grid – pointed down to subject from camera front/left. Triggered with PWplusII.

Day 39

bench monday

We don’t have a bench in the house… and since Chris is still traveling, I decided to improvise with stuff here in the house. But we do have a table. So I grabbed the pledge and dusted it off… effectively making it VERY slippery in the process. So I grabbed our ladder and used that to climb up on the table – as many of you know I’m not a very coordinated person, and I was trying to not injure myself today. lol.

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/60 second, f/2.5, 50mm, ISO=250 – on tripod, shutter triggered remotely, nifty 50mm (f/1.8) lens.

Flash: SB800 at 1/128 power @24mm about 2.5 feet high and 2-3 feet away from subject – on manfroto nano stand – with my diy snoot straw grid – pointed slightly up to – though nearly even with subject from camera front/left. Triggered with PWplusII.

catch up time!

I know it’s been a while since I posted a blog. I’m going with the excuse that I was moving…

Now that we’ve moved (to Lakeland for those who didn’t know) and are settled in, it’s time to get back to work. So here’s the photos from the past [I dunno] week or so? Maybe a little bit longer? lol. You can check out all the info and stories behind the photos by clicking HERE for the set on flickr.

So, I’ve made that a gallery so you can see the photos a bit larger and leave comments on a specific image if you like. I’d love to know what you think of them! Especially the ones that are not you’re standard portraits. =) I think my creative side is a bit dark.

Anywho, I hope you enjoy those photos… and now that things are returning to normal I’ll be better about posting on a regular basis on the blog. As always, I post every day (excluding those days that we were moving) on flickr! And you can also follow me on facebook and twitter too!

Also, (I posted this on my facebook page as an update to my fans, but I wanted to share it here as well).

I’d like to invite you all to participate in my 365 project!

In an effort to make this project even more interesting, I am inviting each one of you to model for one day in this project! In an effort to pay for the gas it’ll take to come to meet you for your photo and cover my time/efforts to make your image come to fruition, I’m charging the amount that corresponds to the number of the photo for the project. SO, that means that if you’re wanting me to shoot something with you on, say, DAY 24 – then it would be $24… or day 245 – then it would be $245. See what I mean?

You can think of it as a mini-photo session – and we’ll collaborate ahead of time on ideas we can do before the shoot. We can shoot anything you want! And I will also use all my photoshopping skills to make sure we get the image *you* want! So, what exactly do you get? You’ll get your one shot in digital form – emailed to you – and a release form which you’ll sign when we meet up for your shoot!

Plus, for those of you who book between days 100 and 150, you’ll get a free 5×7 print. Days 151-200 get a free 8×10 print. Days 201-250 get a free 16×20 print. Finally Days 251-365 get all of the above – a 5×7, 8×10 and 16×20! *All prints come from a professional printing service – prints are created with printers that expose light sensitive paper that is then run through a chemical process. These are real photographs, not inkjet prints. =)

I know we’ll have a blast playing with the camera!!! So, just drop me a line to let me know when you’d like to book your day! I look forward to working with each one of you!!!

And thanks again for supporting SqueekPhoto.com !!!

A little…. hmmm?

Day 22

Today I was feeling a little crazy. I don’t know why. And I was packing up some more stuff and ran across my face paint and thought… what the heck! So I threw some on [with little care for what it really looked like] and played with the camera.

I tried when I was done to remove the makeup (it’s some oil based halloween makeup we had laying around) – and though I got most of it off, I’m pretty sure there’s a fair amount in my eyes. They’re watering like crazy and overall feeling irritated now. I guess I need to go digging through my (already packed) makeup kit to find my remover.

sigh.

Camera Info: 1/200 second, f/10, roughly 35mm, ISO=200 – on tripod but I pressed the shutter manually.

Flash: SB800 at 1/4 power @17mm about 4 1/2 feet high, shot through umbrella. Triggered with PWplusII.

I ended up with a few images that I liked so I thought I would share them here:

And for those of you wanting to know more about the setup for these (other than the text I have above):

Catching up…

Here’s the last few days of 365 photos – all of which have been up on flickr.
Day 18

Arrival.

My daughter, Makayla, has this Wall-E toy that she just loves. So I though I would take a photo of it that she could admire… and that I could frame and put in her new room when we move. It was quite late tonight when Chris got in from work anyway… so I thought I would go ahead and post this as my day 18 photo. Hope you enjoy!

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/250 second, f/1.8, 50mm, ISO=160 – hand held (shot with my nifty 50 f/1.8 lens).

Flash: SB800 at 1/64 power @28mm with my diy straw grid snoot on manfroto nano stand about 4 feet high, pointed down on Wall-E toy. Triggered with PWplusII. The red dot is a laser pointer I had handy. Shot during the late afternoon on a pretty cloudy day.

Day 19

For any of you who follow me on twitter or facebook, you know that yesterday my coffee maker went kaputt! I have no idea why… but it didn’t want to make me my precious morning nectar!

This morning I woke up and remembered that I had meant to go to pick up a new maker last night, but forgot – so today was day 2 with no coffee! UGH!

I can’t go without my morning coffee!!!

So after I fed the girls their breakfast, I loaded them up in the car and headed up to the local Super Wal-Mart to pick up a new one. I found this beauty for a whopping $17.00 !!! ((I did look for a french press, but apparently they don’t carry them at Wal-Mart, though I’ve seen them at Target before)).

Tonight I thought I would do something funny – and something I’ve not done before either. Make a video with a music track that actually made sense when watching it all together. Now I know that if I want to do more videos, I need to pick up a copy of Final Cut Pro… because using iMovie was very frustrating and limiting.

Anyhow…. I hope you enjoy my little funny video! It made me giggle when I watched it completed! =)

All the photos in the video are shot with natural lighting, so no strobist info today. I used my nifty 50mm f/1.8 @ 1.8 and ISOs from 800-1200 based on the shot.

You can watch the video HERE

Day 20

Na-cho. Yum.

So today was exhausting. Had to get up early this morning and make sure the house was presentable despite the fact that half our stuff is in boxes and whatnot because of the impending move. Why? Well… the people that handle renting the current house out have decided that even though we’re still living here, they want to show the house. They have done this twice and I am not a fan. But I had to get up early this morning and clean because they called late yesterday telling me they were coming early today.

They arrived early.

Related note: We have a door in the back that we cannot open. Not because it won’t open… but because it won’t close once opened. These people decided to open it and after they left I had the realtor come back and close it back for me. It took him a bit of effort, but he got it closed and locked up.

Sigh.

So the rest of the day I spent packing up more stuff. I wish I didn’t have to do this alone… I’m exhausted at the end of the day! And by the time Chris gets home (after his nearly 2 hour commute) it’s late enough that I don’t want to go out to do my 365. I can’t say enough how much I’m looking forward to our move! We’ll be like 10 minutes from Chris’ work…. so he’ll actually be home at a reasonable hour – which means my 365 shots can head back in the direction I wanted them to go.

On that note – I give you, DINNER! Chicken Nachos. Yum. =)

Camera info in the metadata… available light. =)

Day 21

Last night Chris and I watched Pixar short films playing on one of the Disney channels. No, the girls weren’t up. And we watched it anyway. =) I looked for it again today but didn’t see it – thinking that maybe Makayla would enjoy watching it. Anywho… it stuck with me today… and the thought occurred to me that my desk lamp is pretty similar to the pixar lamp. So todays 365 is inspired by that. Also, I would like to share with you my favorite Pixar short EVER! =)

Camera Info: 1/160 second, f/1.8, 50mm, ISO=200 – hand held (shot with my nifty 50 f/1.8 lens).

Flash: SB800 at 1/128 power @35mm 5 feet high, bounced off ceiling. Triggered with PWplusII.

————

So that catches you up to today…. which I’ll post a little bit later. Hope you enjoyed! =)

and stay tuned for more photos tonight!

Days 15,16 &17.365

I know it’s been a few days since I posted an actual blog on my 365 stuff… though I have been diligent about getting stuff up on flickr each day. =) But I’ll go ahead and catch all of you blog readers on the last few days.

Day 15

Is it a flower or maybe a stick figure of a strong man? I dunno…. but it’s some bokeh-goodness! Today’s pretty simple:

Camera Info: 1/160 second, f/1.8, 50mm, ISO=100 on tripod
No flash.

Day 16

Chris suggested I call my brother to be my human lightstand this evening and head to Downtown Orlando to shoot strangers. Not typically my strongest suit, honestly. But I persevered – before it started to rain – and asked 10 people if I could take their photos for my 365 project. All ten said yes! It was pretty awesome! So, since it’s getting late, I’ll share two of them with you tonight and then share the rest at a later date. HERE is the other one.

On another note… we had our garage sale today in an effort to sell a bunch of stuff we don’t want to move with us soon. It went pretty well, but we still have the big 63″ tv and the pool table to sell still. Hopefully we can sell them before the move because moving them will suck. lol. If you’re local (Orlando) and want more info about those – just drop me a line!

STROBIST STUFF:

Camera Info: 1/60 second, f/2.8, 80mm, ISO=1000 – hand held (shot with my 80-200 f/2.8 lens).

Flash: SB800 at 1/64 power @28mm shot through umbrella held by my loving brother/human lightstand to camera right slightly in front of subject. Triggered with PWplusII.

And an additional image I posted from this outing is HERE if you wanted to check it out. =)
*singing* I wear my suuunnn glasses at night…

Day 17

Today went by kinda quickly…. and before I knew it, it was late and I found myself so unmotivated to brave the CRAZY wind alone and head out tonight. (So this is from last night’s wanderings – one of those 10 strangers I took photos of last night in downtown Orlando). We all got up this morning and ended up moving all of the boxes and whatnot that I had packed up upstairs to the downstairs staging area I had set up. We still have furniture from upstairs to move at some point… but not until the end of the month will we have to break our backs with all that thank goodness!

And here’s a few more shots from yesterday evening as well. =)
If you like the photos… drop a comment here to let me know I’m on the right track! Thanks!

Day 14.365 – water droplets

Day 14

Today I thought I would try again to take some water droplet photos. I’ve seen these types of photos all around the web and I have tried them before…. but not had a lot of success with them before. So I thought I would try something different this time. First, I’ve seen several pretty cool photos done with milk – so I would try that. Second I would use my nifty-fifty (50mm f/1.8 lens) with an extension tube (12mm ring) to be able to bring the focus in a bit. And lastly, I would try moving the flash with the snoot around the area I’m dripping my food coloring/milk/water mixture and see what I could get.

I’m pretty pleased with the results! Though I can understand why most people make some type of rig to hold their dropper for consistency sake. But doing it hand holding my dropper wasn’t impossible. I think I might try again sometime when I feel up to making a rig. But all in all – I got some pretty cool shots.

Camera Info: 1/250 second, f/3.2, ISO 100 – shot with my 50mm f/1.8 lens with a 12mm extension tube on it – set up on my tripod inches from the saucer of milk.

Flash: SB800 with my diy grid snoot, to left of camera – behind the saucer – on the counter pretty even with the drops – about 1.5 ft away. Fired at 1/32 power, 28mm. Triggered with Pocket Wizard II’s.

And here’s the video with the set up for all this craziness:

On an unrelated note…. the interview with Hillyfans.com is up! Along with a photo I’ve not posted anywhere – it’s just for them to post… so go check it out HERE!!!

Day 13.365

Day 13

So this is the staging area that I’ve set up in the house where things are slowly making their way to once boxed and ready for the move. This is normally my studio – but I broke it down today and packed it all up. I’ve been hard at work the last few days starting to get things ready for our garage sale this weekend and also start packing up the non-essentials for our move. This is actually not everything that I have packed and ready at the moment. I have another staging area upstairs where there are SEVERAL more boxes ready to be moved downstairs. I just had to wait on Chris to get home to help me move them because they are heavy!

I’m excited on the move though! As Spongebob would say, ” I’m READY!” =)

Also, for those of you willing to come and pick this up – We’re selling our big 63″ digital projection tv and it’s stand. The bulb on it blew a few weeks back and we decided that instead of paying $250 to replace the bulb, we’d sell this and get a new tv. Probably a flat screen of some type. We’re not wanting to move this behemoth, so we’re putting it up on Craigslist and I thought I’d put it up on here too in an effort to sell it. If you want to help us out and take it off our hands… please drop me a line! I works just fine, it just needs a new bulb which we’ve purchased before from this place out of California called the Digital Lamp Source. I have the card even on the fridge if you want the number to call them. We’d like to get $250 for the TV and you can make us an offer on the stand if you want them both. Here’s a photo of the tv:
